A few words About Me

Transforming healthcare through advocacy, education, and authentic storytelling—one community at a time.

ABOUT Corey

Health Coach.
Equity Advocate. Social Entrepreneur.

Growing up in Silvis, Illinois, I witnessed the impact of chronic disease firsthand. In my family, conditions like diabetes weren't seen as unusual—they were simply part of our daily life. It wasn't until my studies at the University of Iowa that I began to understand how chronic diseases disproportionately affect under-resourced communities.

My journey into health coaching began with a pivotal moment when a professor suggested I change my major from clinical psychology. It was the perfect blend of my passions: connecting with people and promoting better health through nutrition. With 14 years of experience as a health coach, including specialized training in weight loss and behavior change from Johns Hopkins University, I've dedicated my career to making health accessible to all.

I also speak, host purposeful workshops and organize my own events, too!

For the past eight years, I've served as a clinical health coach at a safety net hospital, where I've faced the challenge of helping people manage conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity with limited resources. These experiences have only strengthened my commitment to health equity and accessible care. In 2020, inspired by my mother's experiences navigating the healthcare system, I founded The Healthy Project, a public health communications company.

This venture grew from a personal mission into a recognized platform, reaching the top 200 in the US medicine category. Our work has earned recognition from the Des Moines NAACP chapter as Organization of the year, and I'm honored to have been named to the Des Moines Business Record 40 Under 40 and received the Iowa Public Health Association's 2023 Health Equity Advocate of the Year award.

As a social entrepreneur, I've expanded my impact through initiatives like My City, My Health—an annual health equity conference turned non-profit organization. I'm also the host of "Coffee Can't Fix Everything," a show where I engage in honest conversations about mental health, working to break stigmas.

My mission is simple but profound: to improve health outcomes in under-resourced communities through education, advocacy, and authentic storytelling. Whether I'm speaking at keynotes about health communication or working one-on-one with patients, I'm committed to creating a healthcare system that serves everyone equitably. With recognition from healthcare organizations and a growing platform for advocacy, I continue to push for positive change in our healthcare system. But my greatest satisfaction comes from seeing real improvements in the communities I serve—one person, one story, one success at a time.
